It's a Car, It's a Phone, It's the New Toyota Fun-Vii Concept

Many auto designers are coming up with new ways to connect consumer smartphones to their vehicles. Toyota, however, spins things a bit differently. The cutting-edge, Japanese automaker has fashioned a vehicle that is a smartphone. What exactly do we mean by that? Well, it's pretty much how it sounds...as shocking as that may be.

Released as a concept at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show, the Toyota Fun-Vii works like a computer or advanced information hub from the inside out. Starting with the interior, the model offers drivers the ability to alter design, color and light pattern based on mood. Moving to the outside, the vehicle's skin consists of touch-panel doors and body screens which can display changing messages and images. The entire Fun-Vii operates as a communication channel, enabling drivers to easily connect with the outside world.

One recent press release revealed that, "Content such as navigation information is blended seamlessly into the interior through the use of augmented reality."1 More specifically, something Toyota Fun-Vii owners could see with this model is a "navigation concierge" that would virtually pop up on the dashboard and offer easy guidance to the driver.

For now, of course, the intellectual transportation portal remains a concept to be ogled over. However, considering the fact that it touches on some key present-day driving/connectivity trends, we at O'Brien Toyota Scion have a good feeling Toyota will put some of the technology to use in the near future. Until that day comes, feel free to dive into some of the other gadgets, like Entune, that are offered in current new Toyota models. If you have a specific model in mind, don't hesitate to contact our experts on line or speak with us in person at 2550 North Shadeland Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46219.
